Winking Owl Chardonnay - Aldi
Winking Owl Chardonnay - $2.99 Aldi Grocery Store
Okay, this was an experiment. I am not a fan of chardonnay, unless it is unoaked. This one was a little scary given its price and the lack of a year on the bottle. On the back, it says "semi-sweet."
The surprise here is that it is totally drinkable, and not the least bit oaky. Leaning more toward the sweet side, it manages to pull of "light and refreshing" without being too heavy. Tastes like a pinot grigio that is just a bit heavier and flavorful.
This isn't a cheese and crackers wine but certainly can hold up with dinner, as a second bottle at girl's night, or in a recipe that calls for white wine.

Vina DeCana 2004 -Aldi
90% Tempranillo + 10% Cab
Price = $5.99/bottle
A little thin, but full of flavor. Great spicy taste will do well with spicy foods such as Spanish dishes, Italian, or seasoned red meat. Do allow a good 30 minutes+ for this wine to breathe and open up before you drink.
Bottle topper says "Silver Medal - best in class, international wine & spirit competition 2008".
What it is
Wine rated by me and my friends. Good wine doesn't have to be expensive, but frequently it is. Yes, I do shop at ABC and Target and even Aldi for wine. I created this blog to share my feelings and feedback about various wines that I have stumbled across and to provide a spot where we can all throw in our two cents about wines we have tried and loved (or not!). I will take pictures of the bottles whenever possible to aid you in id'ing the wines yourself.
** please feel free to comment on posts/wines, as I am interested in hearing about the tastes of others and other possible outlets to find great value wines.
Enjoy!
